Summary
Occupational Health Nurse | HubWest
What your day would be like:
- Provide Care and Assessment: Deliver medical evaluations, treatment, and health education to employees in alignment with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Manage Cases: Oversee return-to-work programs, injury treatment, and regulatory testing to support employee recovery and compliance.
- Conduct Testing: Administer drug and alcohol screenings and other required health assessments.
- Operate the Clinic: Staff the HubWest clinic full time, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and readiness for health emergencies.
- Promote Wellness: Serve as a resource for health and wellness initiatives, offering guidance and support to employees across HubWest and other APS West Valley locations.

Minimum Requirements
Occupational Health Nurse | HubWest
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of residency
- PLUS five (5) years nursing experience.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- Knowledge of emerging practices and trends within the area.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse credential (COHN or COHN-S).
- Experience working in an occupational health setting of a large organization with multiple team members including healthcare providers, medical assistants and nursing staff.
- Experience in occupational health in the Utilities sector.
- Certifications by Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing (CAOHC) and/or National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
- Certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Pulmonary Function Testing, Occupational Hearing Conservation, Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Knowledge in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
- Experience working with Workers' Compensation and Short Term Disability.
- Case management skills.
- Knowledge of regulations, such as Department of Transportation (DOT), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Knowledge of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations as it relates to employee absences and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to reasonable accommodation.
Major Accountabilities
1) Completes pre-hire physical assessments by using proper nursing techniques.
Understands ADA rules and regulations as it applies to pre-hire physical assessments.
2) Completes regulatory physicals by applying regulatory compliance standards.
3) Collaborates with Absence Management and HR Business Partners to ensure accurate and timely case management.
Understands and applies Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations when appropriate.
4) Understands, applies and communicates Restricted Duty Program Guidelines to management and employees.
5) Manages emergent medical health issues of all employees.
Accurately assesses and makes determinations concerning fitness for duty.
6) Acts as the primary point of contact with employees as it relates to their occupational health care needs.
Provides services in a timely, compassionate and efficient manner.
Provides medical health education to employees.
7) Supports the development and delivery of health and wellness programs.
8) Builds alliances with key internal customers and keep customers informed of employee status.
9) Ensures that the Health Services Department meets the appropriate standard and criteria relative to medical equipment and medical supplies.
