The Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is located 18 miles west of Farmington, a community of about 40,000, in the northwest region of New Mexico.

Because the Four Corners Fossil-Fuel Generating plant is on the Navajo Reservation,  Navajo preference will apply in the job selection. 

Summary

As a Safety Consultant at our Four Corners Power Plant, you’ll play a critical role in protecting people, facilities, and the environment by developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that prevent incidents and promote a strong safety culture.

In this role, you’ll combine technical expertise, analytical skills, and proactive leadership to assess risks, identify trends, conduct inspections, and drive process improvements. You’ll also provide training, guide emergency preparedness, and serve as a trusted consultant to both management and employees to minimize injuries, property damage, and environmental exposure.

Program Development – Create and implement safety and compliance programs that meet regulatory and organizational standards.
Risk Analysis – Identify hazards, analyze trends, and recommend solutions to prevent incidents.
Audits & Inspections – Evaluate facilities, equipment, and procedures for safety compliance.
Training Delivery – Develop and conduct employee safety and emergency preparedness training.
Incident Response – Investigate safety events and drive corrective actions.
Consulting & Support – Advise leaders and teams on safety best practices and compliance strategies.

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in safety or related discipline 
  • Five (5) years of professional safety related field experience
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A working knowledge of Federal, State and local Safety/Health Regulations.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Basic Computer skills.

Major Accountabilities

1) Plan, develop, implement and audit comprehensive safety programs to assist management in achieving corporate safety goals.
2) Survey facilities and operations for safety, environmental, fire and industrial hygiene risks and provide assistance with development of action plans to correct problems.
3) Interpret new safety/health regulations, design appropriate policies and procedures and advise management on preferred course of action.
4) Audit the activities of safety committees and provide technical assistance to them.
5) Maintain an effective safety/health resource library to provide assistance to all departments.
6) Counsel management, employees and union representatives to ensure consistent interpretations and revisions of the accident prevention manual.
7) Represent the company with Federal and State OSHA Agencies.
8) Provide CPR, First Aid and other designated training to identified employees.

Role Type

Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

 

*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees). 

*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.

CIP Requirement:
This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
