Summary

The Business Analyst I Resource Management participates in a variety of data analysis and modeling functions including identification of resource needs and selections, evaluating wholesale markets, planning and assisting with system operations, assessing other business or operational plans or items utilizing advanced qualitative and quantitative techniques, and regulatory support. Develop resource plan alternatives based on market trends and conditions, wholesale market changes or other analytical findings critical to the business. Assists or conducts a variety of basic data collection, analysis or modeling functions. Prepares routine reports of findings and recommendations to more senior analysts or appropriate Manager. Prepares reports and data requests, assists traders with production costs studies and preparation and analysis of operating data.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA Degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, information technology, mathematics, physics or similar quantitative field
  • Plus two (2) years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, and electric-utility experience.
  • Basic knowledge of economic principles associated with power plant dispatch and be detail oriented.
  • Strong research and effective communication skills are necessary.
  • Effective word processing and spreadsheet skills are essential.
  • Time constraints, scope and complexity are commensurate with the beginning level.

Major Accountabilities

1) Performs data gathering, analysis, and develops evaluations as required, to meet the company's Short Term and Real Time trading, and resource planning needs in the areas of power, natural gas, transmission, renewables, and regulatory compliance. Presents and reviews analysis with superiors as needed or requested.

2) Executes all analytical functions such as: weather forecasting, load forecasting, renewable output, unit commitment, and incremental/decremental pricing.

3) Maintain and support all Marketing and Trading floor department programs, tools, and software.

4) Assist Back Office personnel in the functions of internal/external audits, financial settlements, after the fact reporting, and data analysis.

5) Ensures Trading Floor compliance by maintaining appropriate documentation, files, records or systems.

6) Performs primary Gas Scheduling functions both Short Term and Real Time including: nominations, trade processing and pipeline scheduling, HEEN, and pipeline blending.

7) Prepares reports and data requests, assists traders with production costs studies and preparation and analysis of operating data.

8) Provides support to other team members to enhance development and productivity.

9) Assists with/ utilizes resource planning tools to develop resource comparisons and avoided cost analyses.

10) Develops understanding of regulatory accounting, rates and revenue requirement determinations
