Summary
The Energy Analyst II is responsible to provide analysis to support monitoring/auditing of regulatory and enterprise risk compliance transactional activity. Provide analysis, and reporting of monthly and quarterly business unit activities, and complete regulatory reporting filings which may include FERC Form 1, FERC EQR filings. Ensure that organized market transactions are efficiently and accurately accounted for and invoiced including but not limited to transactional activity for CAISO's Energy Imbalance Market. This position will require the application of general risk management procedures, and a general knowledge of trading activities and energy products. Experience in account reconciliation, energy billing, financial reporting or the applied use of energy accounting processes and related auditing techniques is preferred. Additionally, the position can require working with energy contracts and the development, implementation and maintenance of financial reports and spreadsheets
Minimum Requirements
- BS degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
- and 2 years' related experience in financial analysis/reporting or data analytics
- OR advanced degree in applied data analytics, data science or statistics and prior practical related work experience.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word.
Preferred skills, knowledge or qualifications
- Knowledge of the applied use of energy accounting processes and related auditing techniques.
- Experience in account reconciliation, energy billing, financial reporting or the applied use of energy accounting processes and related auditing techniques
- Knowledge of risk management procedures
- General knowledge of trading activities and energy products
Major Accountabilities
1) May confirm daily futures transactions with clearing broker and reconcile futures positions of commodity to counter-party statements and internal reporting system; calculate mark to market of open futures positions, monthly index prices and determine maintenance margin requirements as well as physical power, emission allowance, natural gas and paper transactions with brokers and appropriate counter-party; track confirmations on risk management system; research and resolve exceptions with trading/marketing and counter-party personnel; process invoices for commodity purchases, charge appropriate account numbers in order to bill counter-parties for sales; verify accounting records, payables from other utilities and prepare check requests within time periods specified in contracts; follow up with counter-party on past due payments; prepare various reports on results of system and trading activities; analyze daily reporting of operating results and maintain analysis of trading activities and strategies; review and verify broker commissions and submit requests for payment; prepare and maintain various margin and activity reports needed for monthly and daily reporting.
2) May maintain daily natural gas flow and price information for various gas strategies and books; reconcile gas flow data to counter-party statements and to internal reporting systems; review transfer pricing and classification issues for compliance with department guidelines and procedures; confirm gas daily market prices and monthly index prices to verify trades; confirm natural gas and financial transactions with brokers and appropriate counter-party.
3) May review coal contracts to coordinate developing monthly delivery schedules with counter-parties resulting from coal trades; confirm and reconcile daily trade transactions with clearing broker and coal traders; review contracts and ensure deliveries are made within contractual obligations; prepare invoices for sale agreements in accordance with contracts; research disputed charges with trading counter-party and brokers; reconcile coal settlements resulting from monthly purchase and sale transactions and premiums; prepare profit and loss statement.
4) May ensure the accurate and timely settlement of all transactions relating to the sale of transmission and ancillary services by analyzing and verifying energy, transmission usage and services charges, customer and system load data; review contracts to determine billing requirements for transmission settlements, apply rate schedules and billing guidelines and contract parameters; verify energy deviations and imbalance calculations and monitor return of energy; ensure that computerized billing programs are set up to accurately reflect contract provisions; interface with customers or transmission operations personnel to resolve inquires and billing disputes associated with transmission settlement process; determine energy deviation balances, correct plant generation output, interconnected utility exchanges, interchange sales & purchases and transmission system losses; prepare detailed monthly reports of customer activity, account status and delinquencies; may prepare and distribute statistical information on energy usage, peak demand and metering data for use by other departments; provide data for monthly reports of customer activity, ACC, FERC and annual reports; may acquire, validate, estimate and edit data collected through interval data recording (IDR); may prepare and distribute customer meter data involving energy usage, peak demand, and load patterns used by organization; ensure completeness, statistical reliability and quality of IDR data; may apply industry methodologies and techniques to estimate missing IDR data; may serve as system administrator for software load data collection system.
