The Database Administrator III for Oracle creates, maintains, and improves databases in a complex, distributed server environment. Ensures database design is effective, secure and reliable in order to meet APS's needs

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
  • PLUS 5 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience supporting Oracle RDBMS systems and tools
  • Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

  • Knowledge of physical data models, technical architecture, system interfaces, etc. for Oracle RDMBS

  • Fluent in performance tuning, backup/recovery procedures, troubleshooting, and high availability implementation

  • Fluent with Linux commands and utilities, RAC implementation, SQL languages, OEM setup/config, Dataguard

  • Ability to develop and write technical documentation; model, design and  deploy relational databases.

  • Proficient in install and supporting relational database management systems (RDMS); demonstrated continuous ability to improve operations and streamline work processes.

Major Accountabilities

1) Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements, and maintains company Oracle relational database management systems
2) Identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams and documents the process
3) Translates user's needs into a sound database design with tables, fields, and relationships documented
4) Installs, monitors, and directs proactive and reactive measures to ensure the availability, integrity, confidentiality and reliability of database systems
5) Assists in developing purge/archive criteria and procedures for historical application data on a relation model database environment
6) Implements and reviews appropriate security guidelines/mechanisms
7) Develops and tests database migration procedures
8) Maintains documentation for system architecture reference purposes
9) Develops database administration tools/utilities/operation procedures
10) May provide guidance and assistance to other employees

Flex Role:
This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from: 

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.


*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
