Due to growth and investment in our IT leadership structure, APS is adding several Director-level positions that will shape our technology future. We’re building a stronger, smarter digital foundation to power Arizona and we’re looking for visionary technology leaders to join us.

 

As part of APS’s senior IT leadership team, you’ll set strategy, lead high-performing leaders, and deliver modern, secure, and reliable technology solutions that enable operational excellence across the enterprise.

What your day would be like

As a Director of IT, you will:

  • Lead a team of Leaders responsible for delivering reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions.

Leadership Opportunities Available

Director, IT Enterprise Infrastructure
Lead the strategy, modernization, and operations of APS’s core infrastructure environment, including compute, cloud, storage, automation, and data center services. Drive modernization and resilience across hybrid and cloud platforms to support APS’s business transformation.

 

Director, IT Enterprise Support Services
Oversee enterprise-wide IT support operations, including the Service Desk, Customer Care Center, Desktop Support, Mobility, and Observability teams. Champion service excellence, user experience, and operational efficiency across all technology touchpoints.

 

Director, IT Utility Communications
Guide the vision and strategy for APS’s statewide communication and network systems — enabling reliable connectivity for generation, transmission, and distribution operations. Lead teams responsible for IP networks, telecommunications, and disaster-recovery communications infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

Director of Information Technology

 

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Business, Electrical Engineering or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MBA or Masters degree preferred.
  • Comprehensive IT technical and managerial knowledge with a minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience with emphasis in client relationship management, consulting, engineering, construction, development and implementation of information systems.
  • Five (5) of the ten years of experience in an IT leadership role with proven ability to develop and manage high performing teams.
  • Significant knowledge of business processes, competitive trends and developments in industry drivers.
  • Demonstrated effective oral, written and presentation communication skills; marketing and negotiation skills; and the highest quality interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and creativity skills along with the ability to exercise sound judgment by making decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.

Home Based: Home based employees primarily work from their home offices and come into an APS facility on an as-needed basis. 

*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).  

*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.  

*Role types are subject to change based on business need. 

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
