Summary

The Director of Finance and Business Operations is responsible for directing strategic and operational decision support and financial oversight, in partnership with all of the business units, by directing corporate and business unit O&M and capital budgets, business plans and financial and operational performance metrics.. Oversees and maintains the enterprise-wide current work plan forecasting process for O&M and Capital. Works closely with the executive leadership team and Director peers to facilitate the development, reporting, and analysis of information to drive accountability, shareholder return and other financial performance measures, operational effectiveness and efficiency, and enhanced decision making. Reports directly to the VP, Finance & Planning. This position will have second level managers as direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, engineering, information technology, mathematics OR an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 
  • MBA or Master's degree and/or professional certifications (i.e. CPA, CMA) highly preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a supervisory role involving the planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the work and performance of employees. Leadership experience in a financial or accounting based management position highly desirable.
  • Ten (10) years' experience in financial analysis or in a financial, data analytics, or business operations related position in the utility or energy services industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of finance or economic analysis. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) desirable.
  • Experience with some analytical, financial, and/or business operations tools (i.e. Cognos, PowerPlant, Hyperion, Maximo, supply chain and inventory system) is desirable. 
  • Have the ability to direct cross functional teams that will consist of financial and operational based individuals to develop an effective and efficient support systems for all of the business units.
  • Must possess the ability to understand trends and results at both a detailed level and a strategic level, and to inter-relate issues between the two.
  • Demonstrates executive-level oral, written and presentation communication skills; negotiation skills; and the highest quality interpersonal and people management skills. 
  • Travel may be required including overnight trips.

Major Accountabilities

1) Responsible for directing the maintenance and oversight of corporate financial and business operations planning including O&M and capital budgeting, business planning, and financial and operational performance metrics.

2) Directly oversees and maintains the enterprise-wide current work plan forecasting processes for O&M and capital.

3) Directs the delivery of integrated and consistent financial services to the organization focused on the allocation of financial resources, business planning, business forecasting, financial modeling, and directs the cost analysis to support current and future business operations and initiatives.

4) Partners with the executive leadership team to understand strategic direction and analyze changes to business unit performance against expectations to assist in determining if the company is on track to meet objectives.  Conducts regular consultations with executive leadership and Director peers to ensure that the finance organization continues to operate effectively, meets customer needs, and meets performance expectations.

5) Ensures that the appropriate and consistent financial management tools and expertise are provided company-wide to drive accountability, disciplined financial analysis rigor, and enhanced decision making.  Facilitates the integration of corporate strategies into business unit operational plans. Directs the partnership with internal customers to provide strategic financial management consulting and information to support the business needs.  Ensures corporate level financial analyses incorporate business unit business plans and assumptions.

6) Directs the development and preparation of reports, financial projections, statistics, analyses and research studies for executive leadership and the Board of Directors for their use in making strategic decisions.  Monitors significant variances to plan in expenses, projects and capital management.  Alerts executive leadership to issues and recommends corrective actions.

7) Works with the executive leadership team and Director peers in aligning business unit strategy appropriately, and drives business transformation.

8) Owns the enterprise-wide governance and oversight of the Business Planning process, and ensures that consistent Business Planning practices remain the driver of Company initiatives and budget, in partnership with Corporate Strategy.

9) Directs the collaboration with business unit leaders to ensure alignment between business unit strategy and overall company-level targets.  Performs high-level review to confirm that all required processes and methodologies are applied to business strategy.

10) Selects and develops a high performing management team through effective coaching, performance feedback, recognition, training and developmental opportunities.

11) Ensures the development of a collaborative and cooperative culture that supports team accomplishments, and eliminates barriers and road blocks to promote effective and efficient performance and results.

12) Develops a cross-organizational information flow between direct reports and senior business unit leadership teams to facilitate inter-business unit financial discussions that would benefit the various business units and the company as a whole.

13) Coordinates with the VP, Finance & Planning to support the Senior Executive team on the above activities.
