As an Energy / IT Solutions Analyst III at APS, you will help ensure the technology that supports our metering and customer systems is accurate, reliable, and ready to serve Arizona every day. In this role, you monitor, support, and enhance the Advanced Metering Infrastructure Command Center so our teams have the data they need for billing, outage management, field operations, and customer service. You will partner closely across IT, Meter Infrastructure, Field Services, and key vendors to resolve issues, improve system performance, and ensure high-quality meter data. Your work directly supports APS’s mission to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy, and advances our Purpose to do what is right for the people and prosperity of our state. As part of the team, you will help strengthen system reliability and contribute to a sustainable energy future for Arizona.
 
What your day would be like
You are responsible for:
  • Monitor and Support Systems: Oversee day-to-day performance of the metering head-end system to ensure reliable communications and high-quality data.
  • Resolve Technical Issues: Troubleshoot system alerts, data gaps, and communication failures by partnering with internal teams and vendors.
  • Maintain System Health: Perform routine maintenance, validation, and integrity checks to ensure systems are available for billing, outage response, and customer service.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with Meter Infrastructure, Field Services, and IT partners to ensure issues are addressed quickly and system enhancements are delivered effectively.
  • Improve System Performance: Analyze trends, recommend improvements, and help enhance reliability and efficiency across the AMI environment.

Minimum Requirements

Energy / IT Solutions Analyst III

 

  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field and 5 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas.
  • Experience in a 24x7 production support environment (on-call support preferred)
  • Knowledge of safety policies, practices and procedures; basic knowledge of computer science and/or engineering; generation, transmission and distribution system design, operations, and procedures; systems software and database administration; network and workstation technologies; technical issues related to energy management systems and applications; software, hardware and telecommunication; systems for real-time data collection and exchange. Skill in developing and writing technical documentation; evaluating and testing emerging technologies

Technical Skills

  • 3+ years of experience supporting AMI systems (Landis+Gyr AMI Command Center) or utility operational applications
  • Strong understanding of AMI architecture (meters, collectors, RF mesh, cellular, HES, MDMS)
  • Knowledge of utility meter operations and AMI workflows
  • Familiarity with SQL queries, logs, and system diagnostics
  • Experience with Windows/Linux servers and basic network concepts (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls)
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows and Linux environments; provided off hours support as part of an on-call rotation; work well on a team; works well with customers/clients; problem solve; thinks innovatively; gives high level of attention to detail

Analytical & Operational Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis abilities
  • Ability to analyze meter communication and performance data
  • Understanding of utility operations, including billing, outages, and field services
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues in a production environment

Communication & Collaboration

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with IT, operations, and vendors
  • Experience documenting procedures and technical issues

Major Accountabilities

  1. Maintain high availability and operational readiness of the Landis+Gyr Command Center Application
  2. Monitor system health, communication performance, and scheduled jobs
  3. Identify and resolve system issues impacting meter reads, interval data, or operational commands
  4. Ensure AMI system performance meets established SLAs and operational targets
  5. Ensure accurate and timely collection of meter data interval, register, and event data
  6. Work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot system issues impacting  meter communication failures  
  7. Perform root cause analysis for recurring AMI issues, Coordinate issue resolution with IT infrastructure, network teams, field operations, and Landis+Gyr
  8. Track incidents and corrective actions in enterprise ticketing systems(ServiceNow)
  9. Assist with Command Center upgrades, patches, and configuration changes
  10. Support and monitor AMI integrations to MDMS, GIS and other enterprise systems
  11. Maintain AMI operational documentation, SOPs, and runbooks
  12. Identify opportunities to improve system performance, automation, and operational efficiency
  13. Provide performance metrics and status reporting to leadership
  14. Patching - Planning, coordination, and execution of Windows, Linux OS and Landis+Gyr Command Center application patches across AMI environments (Non-Prod, production, test, DR as applicable), Review and validate patch scope, dependencies, and system impacts prior to deployment. Ensure patches are tested in non‑production environments and approved through formal change management processes. Schedule patch deployments to align with AMI operational windows, avoiding billing, outage, and critical operational impacts. Execute or support patch installation, post‑patch validation, and system health checks. Verify AMI services, interfaces, jobs, and meter communications are fully functional after patching. Support rollback or recovery procedures in the event of patch failures. Maintain patch documentation, implementation records, and validation evidence for audit and compliance purposes
  15. Ensure AMI systems meet security, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements related to OS and application patching
