Summary
Finance & Business Operations (FBO) Financial Analyst, Senior / Consultant (FUEL) - Participates in a variety of financial analysis projects or functions including budget preparation, variance analysis, business operational metric reporting, net present values, cash flow analysis, forecasting, and operating expense and financial results reporting and analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Gather and review data, update financial and business operations models and applications, analyze and report results.
- Perform advanced level financial analysis functions; budget preparation, variance analysis, metric reporting, net present values, cash flow analysis, forecasting and operating expense and financial results reporting and analysis, metrics development, and benchmarking assistance.
- Develop or direct the development of gathering and reviewing data.
- Design and develop financial and report packages.
- Undertakes complex financial FUEL related support and planning projects.
Minimum Requirements

- Bachelors' degree in finance, accounting economics, mathematics or related field
- AND five (5) years' related experience in financial analysis or in a financial, data analytics, or business operations related position in the utility or energy services industry
- Comprehensive knowledge of finance and economic analysis, business operations, or business planning.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong research, data management and effective management communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.) and database tools (Power BI)

- AND seven (7) years' experience in financial analysis or in a financial, data analytics, or business operations related position in the utility or energy services industry.
- Advanced knowledge of finance and economic analysis, business operations, or business planning. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong research, data management and effective communication skills.
- Strong research, strong ability to mine and manage large sources of data and excellent executive management written and verbal communication skills a must.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.) and database tools ( Power BI)
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications
- MBA or Master's degree preferred.
- Advanced experience with related analytical, financial, database, and/or business operations tools (i.e. Cognos, PowerPlant, Hyperion, Maximo, supply chain and inventory systems).
- Travel may be required.
Major Accountabilities
1. May act as the process owner for FUEL budget preparation, variance analysis, and short and long-term forecasting for the enterprise
2. Design and develop financial report packages. Undertakes complex Fuel-related financial support and planning projects.
3. Consult with business units in the utilization and prioritization of Fuel budgets, current work plans and long-range forecasts typically involving high impact issues.
4. May support the monthly accounting close process on an ad-hoc basis by performing variance analysis, and preparation of variance explanations and communication to management. Ensure financial events and transactions are reported to Accounting for proper financial statement recording and accounting treatment.
5. Compile relevant data, perform variance analyses, update forecasting models and reports supporting the execution of fuel-related planning and initiative tracking, gap analysis, metrics development, tracking and benchmarking, and portfolio management.
6. Collaborate with department staff and business units in the evaluation of Fuel-related business scenarios by utilization of corporate financial and forecasting models. Develop ad hoc models to support unique scenarios or limited scope analysis. Provide direction or support in the formulation of model inputs and processing of data through forecasting models.
7. Consult with department leadership and business management in identifying, recommending, and developing tactical and strategic opportunities.
8. Review and ensure that initiatives to be included in the fuel forecasting are strategically aligned with benchmarking, budgeting and planning processes.
9. Review and ensure that documentation to support initiative implementation is accurate and complete. Provide recommendations to ensure effective implementation.
10. Provide direction and participate in design, development, compilation, presentation and communication of fuel reporting packages for management reporting including identification of significant findings and conclusions through the use of existing technology and strong understanding of fuel-related financial and operations related data. Ensure financial report packages and communications deliver impactful and relevant messages.
11. May complete and submit required external reporting and filings including ACC rate cases and discovery requests
12. Maintain advanced knowledge and understanding of all fuel-related workstreams.
13. Drive continuous improvement/process improvement in annual budgeting, semi-annual Long Range Forecasts, forecasting models and reporting of results.
14. Provides training and support to business customers to ensure understanding of new or existing processes; develops and provides comprehensive training to others within department.
15. Provide guidance and support to other team members to enhance development and productivity. Serves

Flex Role:
This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work. Employees will have two options to choose from:
- APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
- Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.
*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
