Summary

The IT Rotational Analyst role helps power APS’s mission to deliver reliable, affordable, and clean energy by strengthening the technology that supports our operations and customers statewide. Through hands-on experience across multiple IT disciplines, this role contributes to building secure, efficient, and forward‑looking systems that enable APS to serve one of the fastest‑growing states in the country.  

 

What Your Day Would Be Like

  • Contributing to real IT projects that support core business and operational systems across APS gaining hands-on/real-time experience working on important and challenging projects
  • Three six-month rotations through infrastructure, applications, and planning/governance teams to build broad technical and business perspective 
  • Responsibilities within each rotation including a combination of assignments, participating in structured learning, and preparing formalized feedback
  • Troubleshooting and resolving application or production issues that impact users and services 
  • Testing enhancements and fixes to ensure systems are reliable, accurate, and ready for use 
  • Collaborating with mentors and teammates to strengthen communication, presentation, and teamwork skills

Accelerators

Accelerator tracks are optional pathways within the Rotational Analyst Program designed to develop specialized expertise in in-demand areas. Participants follow the standard rotational structure of three six-month rotations while completing targeted training aligned to a specific functional focus. This structured approach provides enhanced skill development and prepares participants for potential full-time placement within the selected specialty upon program completion. 

Participants in an Accelerator track may be required to complete additional agreements during or following the first rotation to continue in the specialized pathway. AVEVA PI Accelerator: What makes the AVEVA PI Accelerator unique is its specialized training focused on the AVEVA PI Software. This work requires strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, a basic understanding of data concepts, and some experience with scripting or programming tools like SQL, Python, or PowerShell. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Prior Intern/Co-op experience in IT or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of relational databases & SQL, the Software Development Lifecycle, software QA & testing best practices.


Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • Experience working with AVEVA PI systems.
  • Experience working with agile IT teams.
  • Good understanding of real time data systems, data collection, systems monitoring, and visualization.
  • Participation in the APS internship program is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and in group settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and quick thinking, practical, decision making skills.
  • Commitment and passion to develop into a cross-functional team member who will make a direct impact on company success.

Major Accountabilities

1. Support the design, development, modification, and/or configuration support of applications and programs
2. Support production systems, analyzes and resolves production problems in a timely manner; resolves end user service requests as assigned
3. Complete unit test application changes to ensure quality of work; tests new features, enhancements, and defect fixes
4. Maintain documentation of processes, guidelines, tools, and training aids required to support business unit.
5. Analyze, debug, and resolve defects in applications
6. Assist in identifying and evaluating systems and procedures that are cost effective, efficient, reliable, and meet user requirements
7. Assist in research or analysis that may help in architecture planning

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

  • Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
