IT System Quality Engineer II

 

As an IT System Quality Engineer II, you'll help ensure the technology that powers APS is reliable, secure, and ready to support our employees and customers. You'll partner with project teams to build quality into technology solutions from the start, helping identify risks, improve system performance, and ensure new applications meet business needs before they go live. Your work plays an important role in delivering dependable technology that supports the safe and reliable delivery of energy to Arizona communities.

 

What Your Day Would Be Like:

  • Partner with project teams to build quality into applications and technology solutions from planning through implementation.
  • Identify risks early and recommend testing and quality strategies that improve system reliability and project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with developers, business partners, and technical teams to ensure solutions meet business needs and quality standards.
  • Evaluate system performance, testing results, and quality metrics to support informed project decisions.
  • Present quality findings and recommendations to both technical and business stakeholders, helping teams make confident, data-driven decisions.

 

Who We're Looking For:

  • Experience with software quality assurance, quality engineering, or IT testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, risk-based testing, and technology quality practices.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical information and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Minimum Requirements

IT System Quality Engineer II

 

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or equivalent combination of relevant work experience and completed years of college coursework.
  • PLUS of five (5) years information systems audit or QA experience.
  • General exposure to the implementation of quality management systems (QMS). ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) or equivalent.
  • Strong technical knowledge within a business domain or system and intermediate knowledge across related technical areas

 

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • ASQ CSQE (Certified Software Quality Engineer), ASQ CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of software/systems development and maintenance lifecycles and applicable quality assurance methodologies and best practices as well ancillary processes (e.g. project/product lifecycle, change management, etc.)

Major Accountabilities

1. Contributes to the design, establishment and adherence to Software/System Quality Assurance (SQA) programs and projects in the development and implementation of IT applications, systems and technology
2. Independently performs risk assessment, defines Quality strategy, test strategy and test planning, testability analysis, and test preparation/execution guidance across a project lifecycle on multiple medium size projects at a time
3. Facilitates the collaboration and alignment of business units and IT through all stages of projects of medium to high complexity to ensure business requirements are met
4. Contributes to the building and maintenance of reusable assets that can be used to enable or enhance the QED quality assurance initiatives
5. Thoroughly evaluates the software/system products according to the business standards or function requirements. Isolates, reproduces, and tracks defects and verifies fixes.
6. Supports and implements quality and testing metrics and the associated reporting activities
7. May act as the information resource for others in the assigned areas. 
8. May assist in the assessment and planning of test efforts required for software/system product development and maintenance.
Supports software/system audits and ensures timely resolution of non-compliances
9. Recognizes, identifies and devises improvements to current standards or potential areas where existing standards require change, or where new ones need to be developed and provide models of change for possible future configurations. 
10. Utilizes intermediate understanding of verification and validation processes, including early software defect detection and removal, inspection, and testing methods (e.g., types, levels, strategies, tools and documentation). Analyzes test strategies, develops test plans and execution documents, and reviews customer deliverables.
Supports SQA process improvements
11. May provide guidance, training, and assistance to entry level employees and/or to one or more Managed Service Provider (MSPs)
12. May lead the testing team, monitor progress, and resolves issues within the oversight of a senior SQE

Home based: Home based employees primarily work from their home offices and come into an APS facility on an as-needed basis. 

  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
