Summary

APS has an opportunity for Electrical Project Inspectors who will be coordinating, monitoring, and inspection activities related on behalf of the Company related to projects completed by contractors, such as electrical line and substation construction, trenching and conduit installation, and site preparation. 
This Position Is Filled Under The Project Inspector Electrical LOMA - 2015

The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday from 6:00AM - 2:30PM (AZ/MST)


Duties may include, but are not limited to:
-Monitoring and evaluating contractors with regard to completion of project activities, project scope, quality assurance, safe work practices, environmental concerns, schedule and contract adherence, etc. 
-Coordinating activities with other APS personnel or departments as need. 
-Coordination of switching orders and clearance procedures.
-Building partnership arrangements among contractors, municipalities and APS construction crews to ensure the best quality product. 
-Assist in the resolution of complaints and issues related to their projects. Inspectors may be required to coordinate and inspect multiple projects.   


Minimum Requirements:
-At least 18 years or older
-High School Diploma or GED
-Must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License
-Five (5) years’ experience related to the primary functions of the position, including a working knowledge of electrical line and substation construction practices, standards and specifications
-Experience as a Journeyman Lineman or Electrician working on systems 12 KV and above required.
-Must live reasonable distance (one (1) hour) from headquarters
-Successfully pass qualifying tests.


Additional Requirements:
-Physically capable of handling all job requirements.
-Ability to work and communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and other associated department personnel.
-Must have basic computer skills.
-Majority of activities are field related and may include multiple projects and job sites.
-Must be capable of working extended workdays and call outs (which may include night work), overnight assignments, and out of town assignments for extended periods.
-Ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
-This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300lbs or less
-The established headquarters for this position is subject to relocation to the HUBwest Service Center, a facility that will be located 38 miles west of downtown Phoenix, on a date to be determined by the company.

*Registered Apprenticeship Program Criteria: Program must have a documented process for hours worked in the field in the work processes associated with the craft e.g. distribution, transmission, maintenance, etc.  Registered apprenticeship programs for the trades in question require 7,000 – 10,000 hours (3 -5 years).  Program must have documented proof of completion of related education classroom courses.  Registered apprenticeship programs require a minimum of 144 hours per year of related education courses during the course of the apprenticeship program

** Journeyman level experience must be documented in writing if you are unable to provide us a certificate of completion of Registered Apprenticeship.  This will require a letter on company letterhead documenting your title, details of your roles and responsibilities, and length of time in that position.  It must be signed by an operations or HR manager.  This information will be subject to verification.

Testing Information

 

Tests are only administered to referred candidates. More information about our tests and the testing process can be found HERE. 

 

A written [paper and pencil] test will be administered.
A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.
A hands-on skills test will be administered.

This position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site, due to the nature of work.  

 

Eligibility:

Must live or relocate within reasonable distance to the headquarters. Reasonable distance is defined as one (1) hour for Metro and State Region locations. Reasonable distance for Troublemen, Local Representatives, and Substation Technicians is defined as thirty (30) minutes for Metro locations and forty-five (45) minutes for State Region locations. 

    • For jobs in departments (System, Reliability, Hotstick) that require the majority of the work be performed out-of-town and as such, employees/crews are not required to report to the established headquarters unless directed by Leadership; the reasonable distance requirement will be waived.*.

                    *This will not apply to Troublemen, Local Representatives or Substation Technicians.

 

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
