Project Manager II / III | Coal Capital Power Generation
Are you an experienced Project Manager with a proven track record in managing large-scale projects in the utility or energy generation sector? We’re looking for a leader who can take full ownership of project budgets, ensure cost containment, and apply strong financial acumen to deliver successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Leading High-Impact Projects: Take sole responsibility for managing complex, large-scale coal generation projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Budget & Cost Management: Oversee project budgets ranging from $2,000,000 to $25,000,000, with a focus on cost containment and financial efficiency.
Strategic Execution: Develop and implement detailed execution plans that align with project goals, ensuring adherence to APS Project Complexity guidelines.
Stakeholder Communication: Provide regular, transparent updates to Four Corners Leadership Team, Onsite Construction Team, internal stakeholders, and occasionally external parties on project progress and financial performance.
Site Leadership: Frequent site visits to our Four Corners Power Plant, located in Fruitland New Mexico, with the potential for extended stays, to oversee project execution and ensure alignment with financial goals and schedule adherence.
The ideal candidate will have:
Project Management Experience: A strong background in leading large-scale generation or utility projects with significant budget responsibility.
Financial Acumen: Expertise in managing project finances, with a focus on budgeting, cost containment, and financial reporting.
Strong Conflict Resolution Skills: Demonstrates the ability to navigate and resolve conflicts effectively, fostering collaboration and positive outcomes. Capable of handling difficult conversations and mediating disputes in a professional, constructive manner.
Utility or Power Plant Construction Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience in utility scale and/or Power Plant construction, including knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and safety regulations. Proven ability to manage and oversee utility construction projects from planning to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality expectations are met.

Minimum Qualifications
Project Manager II | Coal Capital Power Generation
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Information Systems or related field from an accredited college or university
OR
- Equivalent combination of college coursework and experience as a Project Manager or related responsibilities defining and/or managing project scopes, timelines, budgets and delivery equaling four (4) years,
PLUS
- Five (5) years related project management experience.
- Experience managing multiple medium-to-large scale projects simultaneously.
Project Manager III | Coal Capital Power Generation
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Information Systems or related field from an accredited college or university
OR
- Equivalent combination of college coursework and experience as a Project Manager or related responsibilities defining and/or managing project scopes, timelines, budgets and delivery equaling four (4) years,
PLUS
- Eight (8) years related project management experience.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required (any exception requires Project Management peer group approval and the employee must acquire PMP certification within 12 months of hire).
- Experience managing multiple medium-to-large scale projects simultaneously.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- Extensive understanding of project management processes, principles and methodologies.
- Comprehensive functional/technical knowledge of the business unit's line of business, practices, and procedures may be preferred or required.
- Strong critical thinking and creativity skills along with the ability to exercise sound judgment by making decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
- Able to understand needs and values of stakeholders and team members and apply that understanding to motivate behaviors and results.
- Experience in directing multi-discipline teams.
- Demonstrated leadership, project management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and people management skills.
- Adapts to changing environment, shifting priorities and uncertainty.
Major Accountabilities
1) Plans, monitors and manages all aspects of moderately scaled projects across one or more departments or business units including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure in accordance with internal process methodologies. Ensures completion according to project plan (i.e. scope, schedule, budget).
2) Develops and presents comprehensive project plan to project sponsors and management. Obtains all necessary approvals.
3) Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, staffing, progress reporting, people management, vendor relationships and troubleshooting
4) Monitors performance and recommends schedule changes, cost adjustments or resource additions.
5) Oversees schedules and directs team resources. Ensures that materials and equipment are delivered on time.
6) Ensures project results meet requirements regarding quality, reliability, schedule and cost.
7) Provides timely and accurate information and status updates to project teams, business management, project sponsors, and senior management.
