Summary
The Real Time Trader ensures that APS customers are provided the most economical sources of energy by analyzing real-time market conditions and making decisions to purchase from other companies, generate internally, or sell to other utilities and marketers. Markets excess resources to other utilities and marketers on a real time basis. Personally develop and implement specific marketing strategies to negotiate sales and purchases on a real time basis to maximize APS' bottom line profit. Understand and execute all trading activities in compliance with Regulatory and Reliability standards and protocols. Purchases and sells intraday natural gas for the system, when needed, to ensure significant imbalances do not occur. Manages gas storage and assists Traders in arbitrage opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
- BS/BA degree in business, economics, engineering, or related field
- And two (2) years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Qualification on all 3 trading floor desks (Gas, EIM, Power), as well as M&T University will fulfill the experience requirements in absence of other combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform under stress in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to make analytical decisions utilizing mathematical skills.
- Ability to utilize a computer and associated data bases, software, hardware.
- Experience with OATI and PCI products.
- Ability to work rotating shifts
Major Accountabilities
1) Continually project system load requirements and commit most economical APS resources to meet customer requirements.
2) Analyze real time market conditions, negotiate and purchase most economical energy source for APS customer load.
3) Negotiate sales of energy to other utilities and marketers in a real time competitive market environment.
4) Continually monitor and analyze on-line generation to ensure sufficient system operating reserves.
5) Ensure that interconnected system and associated power pool operating agreements, criteria and guidelines are met.
6) Provide complete and accurate documentation of all transactions, commitments, counterparty and Balancing Authority communications and events relating to the generation and marketing of APS Energy Resources.
7) Implement an optimum gas supply strategy program which maximizes supply at the most cost effective level.
8) Negotiate cash market gas purchases and sales.
9) Qualify on all 3 trading floor desks (Gas, EIM, Power), as well as M&T University, if not previously qualified with equivalent experience.
