Summary
The Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating Agile team processes and ensuring effective collaboration, communication, and delivery of high-quality products. This role supports the team by guiding Agile practices, removing impediments, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include
- Facilitating team meetings, enabling decision-making, resolving conflicts, and making work visible to both team members and stakeholders.
- Documents and communicates expectations, progress, and product-related information to ensure alignment across teams.
- Working closely with the Product Owner and development team, the Scrum Master supports the successful execution and delivery of new products.
- Additionally, the role contributes to internal and external communications, promoting transparency and flow of information while shaping team behaviors and strengthening team dynamics.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors' degree in Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline and minimum 8 years directly related business experience in areas such as project management, process improvement, data analytics, etc. and minimum one (1) year experience as a Scrum Master for a software development team applying Scrum principles, practices and theory.
- In lieu of degree, equivalent combination of education and directly related experience equaling 12 years is required.
- First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I) required.
- Skill in, and knowledge of, servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment and increasing transparency.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- Experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, and Automated Testing.
- Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written and mentoring skills. Some knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and standards impacting business unit areas. Proficiency in one or more data management tools.
Major Accountabilities
1) Guide the team and organization in the use of Agile/Scrum practices to deliver products meeting customer needs
2) Identify and mitigate roadblocks that can delay the completion of deliverables. Guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment
3) Set schedules and facilitate discussions team meetings, decision making and conflict resolution processes.
4) Track the team's overall productivity and effectiveness. Ensuring visibility of work and utilization of appropriate tools
5) Support the Product Owner to prioritize and maximize value/outcomes delivered by the team and serve as coach, ensuring the Product Owner and team members are aligned on key requirements for each deliverable
6) Support Product Owner in coordinating and engaging with leadership and other stakeholder outside the team
7) Provide support to the team using a collaborative leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
