We’re seeking a strategic, solutions-oriented Senior Attorney to provide expert legal guidance on complex commercial, regulatory, and environmental issues—primarily supporting the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, the largest power producer in the U.S.
In this influential role, you will advise on legal matters that directly impact company operations and policy, collaborating with senior leaders and officers across APS. You’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy, applying creativity, sound judgment, and deep subject matter expertise to navigate evolving legal and regulatory frameworks.
What your day would be like:
You are responsible for:
- Providing legal counsel on a wide range of regulatory, commercial, and environmental matters impacting Palo Verde and other APS operations.
- Advising on contracts, regulatory filings, environmental compliance, and stakeholder engagement.
- Leading and managing complex legal projects, often coordinating with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Interpreting and applying legal frameworks to support strategic decisions and operational planning.
- Engaging with regulatory agencies, preparing responses to inquiries, and ensuring compliance with federal and state energy laws.
- Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts and other legal documents to support commercial operations.

Minimum Requirements
Senior Attorney (Regulatory) | Palo Verde
- Degree from an accredited law school; Licensed state bar member in good standing
- May be required to become a member of the State Bar of Arizona;
- PLUS five (5) years of experience with significant exposure to corporate clients and the types of legal issues regularly faced by large public companies.
Major Accountabilities
1) Independently perform a variety of legal services, which involve a high level of complex and difficult legal and/or factual issues in connection with every phase of the Company's operations.
2) Counsel officers and senior management in the development of strategy regarding negotiations, disputes, claims, litigation/administrative proceedings, etc., by recommending specific courses of action based on extensive research, investigation, analysis, and experience.
3) Provide preliminary instruction, monitor performance of assignments, review soundness of approach/arguments and application of legal principles of outside counsel retained by the company.
4) Direct and coordinate the workflow of project teams, while maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external customers

Hybrid Role:
Employees in hybrid roles will work both in their home offices and alongside their colleagues at an APS facility or other work location for meaningful in person engagement.
As of January 2025, hybrid-role employees will be asked to work about 40% of their time in person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.
*Employees in Hybrid roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
