Summary
Arizona Public Service (APS) is seeking a strategic, results-driven Supervisor of Facilities Strategy & Planning to shape the future of APS’s non-nuclear facilities portfolio. This leader will drive long-range capital planning, real estate strategy, workplace design, and building standards to ensure APS’s facilities evolve in alignment with enterprise priorities. The role requires a balance of big-picture vision, operational excellence, and hands-on leadership to optimize APS’s corporate presence and deliver lasting value.
What will your role look like?
Strategic Planning & Capital Forecasting
- Lead long-range capital planning and project budgeting for non-nuclear facilities.
- Develop and execute facility strategies and plans that enable enterprise growth and operational performance.
Real Estate & Portfolio Management
- Oversee real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and lease negotiations to maximize asset value.
- Continuously assess portfolio performance and workplace evolution to inform investment decisions.
Workplace Strategy & Space Management
- Direct space planning, utilization, and move management to support dynamic business needs.
- Implement innovative workplace solutions that enhance employee experience, flexibility, and productivity.
Building Standards & Compliance
- Establish and maintain APS’s building standards, promoting safety, sustainability, and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements across facilities.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing facilities strategy team using APS’s performance tools.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Enterprise Collaboration & Influence
- Partner with APS leadership and business units to align facilities strategy with enterprise goals and available funding.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and visible leader in corporate real estate and workplace planning.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated expertise in facilities strategy, capital forecasting, and project budgeting.
- Proven success in real estate acquisition/disposition, lease negotiations, and space optimization.
- Strong portfolio management and workplace strategy experience in large, complex organizations.
- Skilled people leader with experience in staffing, coaching, and performance management.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to analyze workplace trends and translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Experience developing site master plans, conceptual project plans, and program documentation.
- Proficiency in aligning long-term facility strategies with 5–10 year capital plans and funding availability.
- Strong collaboration with finance, project management, and technical experts to ensure feasible, cost-effective solutions.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Facility Management, Project Management or other job related field from an accredited college or university plus four (4) years of experience in Engineering, facility management/operations, corporate real estate, construction management, project management or other job related discipline.
- In lieu of bachelor's degree, combination of college coursework and experience equaling eight (8) years is required.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Understanding of project management processes, principles and methodologies.
- Demonstrated high quality oral, written and presentation communication skills; high quality interpersonal and people management skills.
- Adapts to changing environment, shifting priorities and uncertainty.
- Strong critical thinking and creativity skills along with the ability to exercise sound judgment by making decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
- Able to understand needs and values of stakeholders and team members and apply that understanding to motivate behaviors and results.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with all levels of personnel and other departments.
- Proven record of establishing priorities and achieving results.
- Experience in directing multi-discipline teams.
