Summary

Supervisor, IT Distribution Operations

 

The Supervisor, IT Distribution Operations ensures the technology that supports APS’s energy distribution systems runs reliably, securely, and cost‑effectively. This role leads a team responsible for keeping critical applications performing at a high level while continuously improving how technology supports day‑to‑day operations. In addition to strengthening system reliability and operational efficiency, this role is accountable for managing the department budget—aligning technology investments with business priorities, controlling costs, and ensuring resources are used responsibly to support APS’s mission of delivering safe, dependable power to the communities we serve.

 

What Your Day Would Be Like:

  • Lead and support a team providing daily application support and system enhancements for energy distribution operations.
  • Oversee the department budget by planning, monitoring, and managing technology spend to ensure effective use of resources and cost control.
  • Resolve operational issues by identifying root causes and implementing practical, sustainable technology solutions.
  • Support the rollout of new systems and enhancements that improve business processes, reliability, and performance.
  • Guide system integration efforts so new and existing technologies work together within APS’s overall IT architecture.
  • Drive efficiencies and continuous improvements that increase team productivity, reduce costs, and strengthen operational outcomes.

Minimum Requirements

Supervisor, IT Distribution Operations

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business or other job related field from an accredited college or university
  • plus eight (6) years progressively responsible directly related experience in area/s of assignment is required to obtain an advanced understanding of information and/or communication systems, operating systems, network communications, equipment and infrastructure.
  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, a combination of education and experience equaling 10 years is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills required.
  • Experience in the development, integration, and support of information systems applications, distributed environments, network architecture and sub-systems, distributed server architectures across platform interfaces.
  • Experience in information systems methodologies, systems guidelines and architectures, and technologies.

 

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated high quality oral, written and presentation communication skills; interpersonal and people management skills; and demonstrated experience in project management. Strong interpersonal savvy in dealing with all levels of management and front-line personnel.
  • Recognizes that different levels of personnel require different forms, frequency, and channels of communication. Overall understanding of the company's organizational and operating structure.
  • Familiarity with business units supported by IT and the services they deliver.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaborative skills.
  • Experience with Distribution line of business applications and electrical engineering background is preferred.

Major Accountabilities

1) Leads the day-to-day activities of a team in the delivery and maintenance of quality information to support energy distribution operations business processes that conform to IT guidelines and architectures.
Ensures 24*7 application support for ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) mission and business critical systems. Ensures preferred technical architecture and business requirements are balanced to provide effective systems solutions, sound architecture, and cross-system integration objectives.
2) Leads the team in the resolution of technical issues by identifying, recommending and implementing appropriate solutions.
3) Manages work group costs within approved budget.Continually works to improve department work processes.
4) Supports unit level strategic plans that align with corporate and Information Technology plans.
Supports client planning process and prioritization for systems technology implementation.
Assigns, directs, facilitates, reviews and approves unit work activities to ensure effectiveness and productivity of the work unit.
Maintains knowledge and understanding of business processes.
Leads work activities to meet client expectations
5) Develops and retains a highly skilled technical team by implementing performance management program and ensuring staff has the technical and business skills to support the objectives of the organization.
Develops team and guides their efforts to continually improve the delivery of system solutions.
Provides feedback, coaching and training and development opportunities to create a high performing team.
