Supervisor, IT Enterprise Storage & Backup

 

As a Supervisor, IT Enterprise Storage & Backup, you'll lead the team responsible for protecting and maintaining the critical technology systems that support APS's operations. By ensuring reliable storage, backup, recovery, and data protection services, you'll help keep essential business systems available, secure, and resilient. Your leadership will enable teams across APS to operate confidently, supporting the reliable delivery of energy to Arizona communities.

 

What Your Day Would Be Like:

  • Lead a team responsible for the availability, performance, and reliability of enterprise storage, backup, and data protection services.
  • Partner with IT teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to ensure technology solutions meet operational needs and strategic priorities.
  • Drive the successful support and lifecycle management of critical infrastructure platforms that keep business systems running smoothly.
  • Guide incident response and recovery efforts, helping minimize disruption and maintain business continuity.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and direction to team members while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Support infrastructure projects and technology initiatives that enhance system resilience, scalability, and operational efficiency.

 

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Experience leading teams responsible for enterprise storage, backup, recovery, or infrastructure operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of storage platforms, backup technologies, data protection solutions, and related infrastructure services.
  • Ability to lead through complex technical challenges and support effective incident response and problem resolution.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to build partnerships across technical and business teams.
  • Experience working with vendors and stakeholders to deliver reliable technology services and drive business outcomes.
  • A proactive leader who values accountability, continuous improvement, and developing team talent.

Minimum Requirements

Supervisor, IT Enterprise Storage & Backup

  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
  • PLUS five (5) years' prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Fundamental understanding of I&O business operations, processes, and business unit(s) systems utilized within the organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of service management concepts and practical applications.
  • An understanding of process improvement, performance management and resource management

 

Preferred Special Skill, knowledge or Qualifications: 

  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of all infrastructure technologies (compute, storage, back-up, networking, cloud computing, physical infrastructure, infrastructure management tools and monitoring tools.)

Major Accountabilities

1) Leads the overall objectives and roadmap for the Enterprise Storage and Backup teams to deliver successful solutions that drive business value.
2) Leads the day-to-day activities of a team in the support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of enterprise storage and backup services that support business processes and conform to IT guidelines, architectures, and operational standards.
3) Leads the team in the resolution of storage, backup, recovery, availability, capacity, performance, and data protection issues by identifying, recommending, and implementing appropriate solutions.
4) Leads team support for integration of new and existing enterprise storage and backup capabilities through overall infrastructure architecture. Balances preferred technical architecture, operational standards, resiliency requirements, and business needs to provide effective solutions and ensure customer support.
5) Manages work group costs within approved budget. Continually works to improve department work processes, operational efficiency, service reliability, and cost effectiveness.
6) Supports unit-level strategic plans that align with corporate and Information Technology plans. Supports client planning and prioritization for storage, backup, recovery, lifecycle, and data protection initiatives. Assigns, directs, facilitates, reviews, and approves unit work activities to ensure effectiveness and productivity of the work unit. Maintains knowledge and understanding of business processes. Leads work activities to meet client expectations.
7) Develops and retains a highly skilled technical team by implementing performance management practices and ensuring staff has the technical and business skills to support the objectives of the organization. Develops team members and guides their efforts to continually improve the delivery of storage, backup, recovery, and data protection services. Provides feedback, coaching, training, and development opportunities to create a high-performing team.
8) Provides technical expertise when dealing with complex enterprise storage, backup, recovery, capacity, performance, lifecycle, and project challenges. Serves as an escalated level of customer support in situations of high complexity or workload. 
9) Partners with architecture, cybersecurity, application, operations, and business stakeholders to ensure enterprise storage and backup services meet availability, resiliency, recovery, compliance, and customer requirements.
