Summary

The T&D Supervisor of Engineering leads and oversees a team of engineers in providing transmission and distribution (T&D) engineering services that align with regulatory standards, company objectives, and industry best practices. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality engineering designs, technical analyses, and strategic planning efforts that support business operations and system reliability.

Key responsibilities include establishing project and team priorities, supervising engineering methodologies and review processes, and ensuring all outputs meet company standards and regulatory compliance. The supervisor also plays a critical role in communicating corporate policies, fostering team development, and ensuring that operational decisions adhere to established procedures and fiscal guidelines.

This position requires strong leadership, technical acumen, and the ability to manage multiple projects while driving engineering excellence and consistent performance within the organization.

Minimum Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelors degree in engineering or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or PE registration in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution, plus five (5) years of related engineering and design experience.

Approved Engineering degrees: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Structural. A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by the Engineering Career Path Review Board to determine equivalency level.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualification:

  • Professional Engineer registration.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability.
  • Possess working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices and methods in specific engineering discipline and in-depth technical knowledge of transmission, distribution, and/or generation engineering, operations, and maintenance.
  • Strong process improvement and business focus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.

Major Accountabilities

1) Implement action plans to achieve established department/division goals and objectives; provide technical direction, ensuring conformance to procedures, government regulations and established codes and standards; control section costs to achieve established budgets; ensures department engineering and design work is technically sound and cost effective and projects meet schedule and budget commitments.

2) Provide direction and guidance to engineers in multiple areas which may include engineering design, planning, technical analyses, overseeing methodologies, verifying conclusions and ensuring quality and consistency of information used in engineering related business unit strategies; provide consultation and technical expertise to other groups to resolve complex issues.

3) Select and develop a high performing, multi-disciplined team through effective coaching, performance feedback, recognition, training and developmental opportunities.

4) Provide resource allocation for a multi-functional, single discipline organization to ensure timely and competent resolution of operational technical issues.

5) Provide results of analysis to executive management for use in strategic planning.

6) Implement and support company policies by functioning as the intermediary between management and frontline employees.

7) Develop department budgets and manage department expenditures within approved limits.

8) Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new and changing processes, technologies or regulations that may impact work of team.

9) Provide technical guidance and support to ensure the highest quality project is produced; provides technical direction to ensure the section performs effectively according to sound engineering principles, practices, procedural standards and regulatory requirements.

10) Effectively interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are achieved and costs contained within budget.
