Summary

  • The Engineer provides technical engineering, design, economic and analytical support to participate in the development of long-range system plans and conducting of engineering requests, proposals and presentations.

 

  • Performs engineering tasks requiring skills and experience gained through application of engineering methods and analysis.

 

  • Work is performed with general guidance over specific engineering design, modifications, and technical assistance.

 

  • Has increasing responsibility for technical decisions and interpretations.

 

  • Provides technical guidance and leadership to others as needed.

 

  • May be subject to shift work.

Minimum Requirements

Level II:

  • A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) plus two (2) years working experience in Engineering-related positions.

 

Level III:

  • A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) plus five (5) years working experience in Engineering-related positions.

 

Level II & III (Approved Engineer Degrees):

  • Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Structural.
  • A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum may be completed by management.

 

 

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering. 

 

  • Problem analysis/resolution techniques.

 

  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods and safety standards in the area of applicable engineering discipline.

 

  • Experience in the utility industry.

 

Level II specific:

  • Basic knowledge of digital logic.

 

Level III specific:

  • Basic knowledge on Function block logic and ladder logic.

 

  • Knowledge on basic instrumentation (level, flow, pressure, density, etc.) and communication protocols (ethernet, 4-20, hart, modbus etc.)

 

  • Able to easily navigate computers including using command prompt commands

 

  • Experience building logic and graphics in a control system.

 

 

Nuclear Requirement:

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage.

This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.

These are conditions of employment at PVNGS.

Major Accountabilities

  • Prepares engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations and verifications.

 

  • Complies with design, regulatory, operating and maintenance requirements.

 

  • Ensures engineering analyses, design, project control, schedule commitments, or oversight work is technically sound, cost effective, and in compliance with established standards, codes, and regulations.

 

  • Interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and that work scope meets customer requirements, budget and schedule.

 

  • Presents the results of designs, studies projects (in terms of new techniques) or approaches to subordinates, colleagues, management and customers.

 

  • Enhances department performance and productivity and/or unit performance by formulating, coordinating, performing analysis and making recommendations for improvements.

 

  • May provide oversight of engineering technical programs by managing the program requirements, working with cross organizational partners, reviewing and internalizing operating experience and coordinating corrective actions to ensure engineering program elements continue to remain healthy.

 

  • Provides input to projects and recommends modifications to increase operating efficiency and/or reviews design and documentation of projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, schedules and any regulatory requirements.

 

  • Remains cognizant of current technology and engineering developments as well as industry and competitive developments.

 

 

I/C WRF Specific:

  • Support Control and Monitoring System (C&MS) System Engineer with the following:

 

  • Troubleshooting plant issues from the instrumentation to the Ovation Distributed Control System (DCS).

 

  • Troubleshoot network communication issues.

 

  • Support plant in interpreting Ovation DCS strategies.

 

  • Support Engineering and Projects Groups on Ovation DCS and PLC modifications (strategy integration).

 

  • Support various tasks associated with the Water Resources Cyber Security Program. 

 

 

Level III Specific: 

  • Work with Ovation DCS: Administration, control builder, graphics builder, and troubleshooting and monitoring using various Ovation tools.

 

  • Work with Allen Bradley PLCs: administration, Studio 5000, building logic, and integrating with another DCS.

 

  • Maintain cyber security standards with a DCS by way of cybersecurity PMs (taking backups, patching, antivirus, access control etc.).

Any PVGS employees may be called upon for random Fitness for Duty (FFD) testing during scheduled working hours. Employees, if off-site, must report to FFD at Palo Verde as soon as reasonably practicable, but no more than 120 minutes after being notified. Employees who are onsite when notified will have no more than 60 minutes to report after being notified.
